The initiative REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) of the European Union is relevant to any Life Science or MDx companies who want to sell their products on the European market. The initiative aims to regulate and limit the usage and disposal of “Substances of Very High Concern” (SVHC). FAQs about OEM enzymes

What is unique about OEM by QIAGEN commercial enzymes?
We offer OEM solutions for a wide array of standard and custom commercial enzymes, i.e., polymerases, ligases and other modifying enzymes, to complement your kits and master mixes for various applications. What is the expected lead time needed to customize a bulk enzyme?
Lead time depends on your requirements and degree of customization. An existing product or component can be delivered faster than a fully customized solution. There are two steps when developing or modifying a commercial enzyme; 1) Initial inquiry and feasibility check. A dedicated project manager (PM) and a team of scientists will work with you to understand your needs and offer possible enzyme solutions to match your requirements. This includes concentration and formulation requirements, custom QC criteria, custom volume and specific packaging. Once the inquiry is complete, the next step is 2) Project implementation. Our PM will coordinate with R&D, production, logistics and controlling to ensure manufacturing and delivery of your enzyme. At this stage, we can confirm an expected timeline to plan, produce, and deliver your first order.
Can you provide a certificate of analysis (CoA) for a specific enzyme lot?
Yes. We provide physical and digital CoA copies with each shipment of a commercial enzyme.
Can you provide a custom certificate of analysis for enzymes?
Yes, we can provide documentation (ex: MSDS or CoA) for tailored or retail enzymes.
Can you perform specialized quality control / functional testing on an enzyme according to my requirements?
We provide tailored quality controls on standard and customized enzymes. Your Project Manager will work with you and our quality control (QC) department to understand your needs, assess feasibility, and implement the specific tests.
Can you provide a safety data sheet (SDS) for enzyme declaration during import?
Yes. We will assist you by providing the SDS documentation needed for import declaration upon request. OEM by QIAGEN enzymes are shipped with relevant documents across many countries.
Can I choose which enzyme or reagent to purchase from a kit?
Yes. Ordering a standalone enzyme, which is part of our kits, is possible. We encourage customers to purchase existing enzymes and buffers individually.
How long are OEM by QIAGEN commercial enzymes supported after delivery?
OEM by QIAGEN supports your custom enzyme throughout its entire lifecycle. From initial inquiry to development or modification, sampling, testing and manufacturing to delivery and after-sales support. Our project management team offers technical support for your OEM enzymes, including technical guides, product data sheets, CoA, SDS, and other documentation upon request. Our dedicated OEM ordering team supports your orders to ensure the goods are delivered while maintaining total confidentiality ̶ sharing information within QIAGEN only on a need-to-know basis.
What kind of customized enzymes or products do you support?
The OEM by QIAGEN portfolio includes but is not limited to enzymes (including lyophilization), oligos, nucleic acid purification, spin columns, master mixes and other reagents and buffers to complement your commercial assays for various applications. Check out our Periodic Table of Kit Components.
Can I request a commercial enzyme at a higher concentration than what is available for the standard catalog product?
Yes. You can order enzymes at higher or lower concentrations than what is available in our off-the-shelf bulk catalog. Enzyme concentrate may also be available for sale by mg. Many of our enzymes are also available with or without glycerol. You may also alter the packaging size.
Can I request a commercial enzyme with a formulation that is not listed on the website?
Yes. You can develop a new formulation or customize diverse parameters to create a new or modified OEM enzyme. There are also various packaging and kitting options. Manufacturing quantities and volume are also matched to your needs. A dedicated Project Manager will discuss all your specific needs during an initial inquiry and feasibility check.
What can I do if I am unsure about which enzyme or buffer to use?
We have a team of expert scientists with whom you can consult regarding enzyme selection, buffer composition or other parameters and modifications to help you decide which commercial enzyme or buffer is best for your workflow. Or if you need to develop a new component. A dedicated Project Manager will help you communicate with various stakeholders in the development and manufacturing departments during your inquiry.
Do you have lyophilization capabilities for enzymes?
Yes. Various enzymes are offered in lyo-ready or glycerol-free formats, which are compatible with lyophilization. We also provide a few enzymes and master mixes that are already lyophilized.
Where are the OEM by QIAGEN enzyme manufacturing facilities located?
OEM by QIAGEN manufactures enzymes and reagents in Beverly, MA in the United States and Hilden in Germany. With offices located worldwide, we can provide global support right where you need it.
Is there a minimum order quantity to initiate an OEM enzyme project?
There are two scenarios; an existing or new, custom formulation. When you order an existing commercial enzyme or a QIAGEN material in bulk filling, we are able to support companies of varying sizes, from small start-ups to established enterprises and market leaders. For a new formulation, there is a one-off customization fee during the initial project stage. If you are ordering a customized enzyme, the minimum order quantity will be discussed and mutually agreed between OEM by QIAGEN and you during your inquiry.
Is there a minimum contract term for the first OEM enzyme order?
OEM by QIAGEN understands the needs of starting up a new OEM enzyme project, and we are flexible in exploring business opportunities with short and long-term contracts. If proprietary information is shared, QIAGEN always enters a confidentiality agreement without a business commitment.
